报告题目The open string pair production, its enhancement and the physics behind

报告摘要

The consistency of superstring theories requires the spacetime be (1 + 9)-dimensions rather than the (1 + 3)-dimensional world in which we live. Testing such theories usually needs to compactify 6 spatial dimensions, e.g., via the so-called Callabi-Yau, to give a 4-dimensional world much like ours, for example, giving rise to the SUSY extension of particle physics standard model.   

Recently, we initiated a study in finding the open string pair production, like the well-known Schwinger pair production in QED, for a system of two Dp-branes placed parallel and each carrying electromagnetic background fields in Type II string theories. The purpose of this effort, using the braneworld picture, is trying to provide a means to test the underlying string theory without the need of spatial compactifications. 

In this talk, I will show how the open string pair production is produced for such a system and explain the physics behind the enhancement of such a pair production when a particular magnetic flux is applied in addition to the applied electric one. However, for the system of Dp/D0, one in general does not expect such a pair production to occur. I will explore the case for which a finite non-vanishing open string pair production rate can indeed be produced when a certain worldvolume flux is applied to the Dp brane.

报告人简介

卢建新,中国科学技术大学教授、博士生导师。1992年在美 Texas A&M 大学获得博士学位,随后在欧洲核子中心(CERN)、美 Texas A&M 大学理论物理中心、密西根大学理论物理中心从事教学科研工作。他的研究领域为量子引力、弦/M-理论等。在所谓超弦第二次革命中与合作者一道做出了国际领先、原创性的研究工作,发现了弦孤子 p-膜并给予了分类,提出了U-对偶与M2理论的关联及弦与5-维膜的对偶关系,突破了弦与高维膜无关的固有认识,为后来非微扰弦各种对偶性以及M-理论的存在性的建立提供了基础,推动了超弦理论的第二次革命。他与Duff和Khuri合写,并以作者自己工作为主的,发表在Physics Report上的特邀文章‘弦孤立子’的目前引用超过800次(HEP-INSPIRE),已成为超弦/M理论领域经典性文献。近期系统地研究了Type II弦理论中D-膜系统的开弦对的产生,发现了其增强效应,探讨了开弦对产生探测的可能性。他是2002年度中国科学院“引进国外杰出人才”、2005年度国家杰出青年科学基金获得者、2004年度教育部长江特聘教授。
