We survey some results in Boson sampling and its applications. As an application, we consider scattershot boson sampling using states with squeezed vacuum states coupled to a linear optical network. We show that we can efficiently approximate the molecular vibronic spectra in polynomial time to obtain the minimum value of the target accuracy and the theoretical upper limit of accuracy. We also fabricated a large-scale integrated quantum photonic chip with 16 modes of single-mode squeezed vacuum states and a fully programmable 16-mode interferometer as a versatile simulation platform. Molecular vibronic spectra of formic acid and thymine were accurately simulated using the integrated chip with high reconstructed fidelity.

LC Kwek is a Principal Investigator (PI) at the Center for Quantum Technologies, National University of Singapore and Professor of Education, National Institute of Education, Singapore. He is currently a co-Director of the Quantum Science and Engineering Centre at the Nanyang Technological University. Dr Kwek has published more than 300 publications with several papers in Nature Photonics, Nature Communications, Physical Review Letters, Review of Modern Physics, and so forth. He is the PI or co-PI for numerous projects totaling more than $25 million. He supervises nearly 30 PhD students. He is also an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Institute of Physics (UK) and the Institute of Physics Singapore.
