报告题目:Controlling Topological Superconductivity in Planar Josephson Junctions

Topological superconductors enjoy continuous enthusiasm from the condensed matter community thanks to their edge states-Majorana zero modes, a potential game-changer in quantum computing. For the past decade, topological superconductivity have been studied widely in one-dimensional systems, which suffer from peculiar technical challenges. In comparison, two-dimensional platforms possess the built-in advantage of device reproducibility and scalability, both necessary as viablebuilding blocks of topological quantum computers. In this talk, we shall see how planar Josephson junctions can support topological superconductivity. I will present my experimental results on HgTe quantum-well devices using both transport measurement and tunneling spectroscopy. We will also explore the prospect of phase bias as a cleaner knob to induce topological phase transition in planar Josephson junctions. The goal of this research direction is to replace the magnetic field needed in previous experiments with sheer control of superconducting phases.

任赫辰,天津大学理学院及量子交叉研究中心教授,曾在美国哥伦比亚大学、哈佛大学和加州理工学院攻读物理专业并从事实验凝聚态物理学研究。主要的研究领域为凝聚态物理实验和拓扑量子计算,包括在低温下研究蕴含拓扑性质的低维量子系统,发展可用于拓扑量子计算的新一代量子器件,通过发展量子输运、相位控制、以及量子隧穿等实验技术来测量和改进拓扑超导器件。
