Recently, a non-saturating linear magnetoresistance was observed in single crystals of the transition metal dichalcogenide NbTe2 by two independent groups and was explained as the Abrikosov quantum magnetoresistance originating from small Fermi pockets with linear dispersion. Here we report the magnetotransport data measured in two devices fabricated from NbTe2nano-flakes. Similar non-saturating linear magnetoresistance was observed in both devices at various temperatures. However, a close analysis shows that our observations are not consistent with the Abrikosov theory; instead, they can be well explained in the framework of the effective-medium theory which describes the classical magnetoresistance of inhomogeneous systems. Our results indicate that the magnetoresistance of NbTe2 is most likely induced by disorders and inhomogeneities. This speculation is supported by the abundant domain structures observed in NbTe2 crystals in transmission electron microscopy measurements.

杨帆,2007年本科毕业于南京大学物理系,2012年博士毕业于中科院物理所,2012-2018年先后在大阪大学和科隆大学从事博士后研究,2018年至今在天津大学物理系工作,主要研究方向为量子输运与量子器件。
