报告摘要:
Vapor nucleation and subsequent cluster growth into larger clusters and eventually into aerosol particles, such as the cloud formation, water droplet formation in turbine engine, and haze aerosol particle formation, is a ubiquitous phenomenon of both fundamental and technical importance. However, a true molecular-level understanding of gas-phase nucleation is still missing, even after over 100 years’ research. Substantial deviations are found between experimental and theoretical data for nucleation rates and critical cluster sizes. The reason is most likely a combination of the lack of experimental, molecular-level information on clusters in the critical size range, and the inadequate classical nucleation theory (CNT) based theoretical description of sub-nanometer sized clusters. In this talk, I will introduce the new technique by combining uniform Laval expansions, single photon ionization-mass spectrometry (VUV-MS), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), that we have developed (at ETH Zurich) to study nucleation and growth. The results on the nucleation and growth of CO2 will be discussed.
蒸汽成核、生成大尺寸团簇,并最终生长形成气溶胶粒子是自然界中的一个普遍现象,如云的形成、蒸汽机中的水滴形成和灰霾颗粒物的生成等。气相成核已有超过100年的研究历史,但是人们在分子水平上对气相成核的认识与理解仍然匮乏。其中,经典成核理论(Classical Nucleation Theory, CNT)是研究气相成核过程的主要(理论)基础。但是,由于其基于液滴模型假设,根据CNT理论预测得到的成核速率和临界核尺寸与实验得到的结果误差很大。究其原因,是目前尚缺少有效的实验技术和科学仪器可以在分子层次上直接对成核及随后的生长过程进行监测和研究。报告将介绍我们最近发展的基于脉冲式Laval恒温恒压分子束、真空紫外(VUV)单光子电离质谱和傅里叶变换红外光谱(FTIR)研究气相成核的实验新技术和新仪器。同时,将介绍我们利用此新技术并结合理论模拟在二氧化碳(CO2)成核与生长中的研究成果。
报告人简历:
Dr. Gao-Lei Hou obtained his PhD in Physical Chemistry/Chemical Physics in 2014 from Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS), and then moved to Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL, USA), ETH Zurich (Switzerland), and KU Leuven (Belgium) for postdoctoral training. His research interest has been lying on cluster spectroscopy and dynamics, as well as state-of-the-art instrument development. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed publications in renowned scientific journals, including PNAS, JACS, Angew, JPC Lett, and JCP, among which about 20 as first authors.
侯高垒博士2009年本科毕业于电子科技大学,同年免试保送至中国科学院化学研究所分子反应动力学国家重点实验室硕博连读,期间曾在美国西北太平洋国家实验室(PNNL)联合培养15个月;于2014年7月获物理化学博士学位,并荣获中国科学院优秀毕业生称号。随后加入美国西北太平洋国家实验室(PNNL)、瑞士苏黎世联邦理工学院(ETH Zurich)和比利时鲁汶大学(KU Leuven)等国际著名研究机构从事博士后研究工作。侯高垒博士长期从事团簇光谱和动力学相关研究,并致力于开发和自主研制团簇研究实验新技术和科学仪器。研究内容涉及团簇物理、团簇化学、大气物理化学和催化反应机制等。目前已在JACS、Angew. Chem.、PNAS、J. Phys. Chem. Lett.和J. Chem. Phys.等知名期刊发表研究论文超过50篇,其中第一作者论文20余篇。
